The new Oxford English Dictionary, which has been in process of publication since 1884, is the largest dictionary in the world and has now been brought up to date by the publication of a supplement. z • The last volume of the main body of the dictionary was published in 1928, but in. the work, which represents a complete scientific dictionary of the English language, a supplement was essential to cover words introduced into the language as the result of modern developments in many fields. Flying, motoring, wireless and cinematography are obvious examples of such developments, which were practically unknown when the first letters of the alphabet were dealt with’ in the dictionary.
