STRATFORD TENNIS CLUB

PREPARING FOR SEASON.

ENTHUSIASTIC ANNUAL MEETING.

Despite the cold an excellent attendance of 30 members assembled for the annual meeting of the Stratford Tennis Club last night. The enthusiasm of members augured well for the success of the season, and the fact that eight new members were elected indicated that the interest displayed during the past. few years in tennis at Stratford was by no means diminishing. Mr. E. C. A. Gaw presided. The annual report (already published) was soon disposed of. Its adoption was moved by the chairman and carried without discussion. Dealing with the balance-sheet, the secretary said the revenue from subscriptions had fallen by about £2O compared with last year, and the position had also been adversely effected by the fact that whereas last year a profit of about £2O had been made from club dances, this year the dances resulted in a loss of £ll. Under these circumstances there was cause for satisfaction in the knowledge that the club, while allowing £39 as depreciation, had practically paid its way. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. E. C. A. Gaw; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. E. R. Bate and L. Cameron; captain, Mr. T. Boyle; vice-cap-tain, Mr. A. Rankin; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. E. Lawrence; auditor, Mr. E. R. Bate; junior captain, Mr. S. Jury; elective members of the committee, Messrs. B. Seyb, R. Bourke, W. A. Mackay, W. Hale and D. Robertson; ladies’ committee, Mesdames W. A. Mackay, F. Weston, C. Ennis, Misses M. McCluggage, P. Brown, N. Lawrence and M. Lindop; representatives on the Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. T. Boyle, E. C. A. Gaw and H. E. Lawrence.

It was agreed to open the season officially on Thursday, October 12. The committee was recommended to refuse the privileges of the club to unfinancial members and to enforce the rule dealing with defaulters.
