GOLF MATCH AT MANAIA
STRATFORD MEN DEFEATED.
MANAIA CAPTAIN HOLES IN ONE. The Stratford golf team paid a return visit to the Manaia links in the weekend and was defeated by eight matches to five, one being halved. The detailed results are:— Morning. Armstrong and Sullivan defeated Armitage and Young 1 up. Kirkwood and. Strachan, lost to Bannerman and Instone 1 down. t O’Leary and Pegg lost to Walker and McKay 3 and 2. Lyons and Harris defeated Spooner and Ryan 1 up. Morey and Bellringer lost to Christie and Meuli 2 and 1.
Coley and O’Neill lost to Hammonds and Hobday 5 and 4. T. Sullivan and Seyb lost to Ryan and Gamlin 6 and 5. Afternoon.
Armstrong and Sullivan defeated Young and Davies 2 up. Kirkwood and Strachan defeated Bannerman and Butler 1 up. O’Leary and Pegg lost to Instone and Walker 9 and 7. Lyons and Harris lost to McKay and Spooner 3 and 2. Morey and Bellringer lost to Christie and Ryan 1 down. Coley and O’Neill all square with Hobday and Hammonds. T. Sullivan and Seyb defeated Ryan and Gamer 3 and 1.
In the afternoon P. H. Instone, the Manaia captain, holed out at the 7th hole (120 yards) in one, an event that was celebrated by both, teams.
