OTANGIWAI NEWS
CONCERT BROADCAST. A concert in the form of a wireless broadcast from station 208 was given by the Methodist Church in the Otangiwai hall on Tuesday last. A mock studio was erected at one end of the hall and Mr. W. Green made a very efficient announcer. The first part of the programme, the children’s session, was given by the pupils of the Otangiwai school. Items given were: Recitation, Owen Barry; song, group; recitation, Joan Barry; recitation, Doris Chaytor; song, group, recitation, Lorraine Barry; recitation, Bobby Barry; song, group. Birthday greetings followed in the form of jokes against various residents of Otangiwai. An interval for games then followed, and after that a humorous news session was broadcast, finishing with the ordinary general session, consisting of musical items and a lecture, and lastly more games under the supervision of Rev. Woodhouse. Supper was served by the ladies.
Erection of New Church, The contract for the erection of a church in the Otangiwai valley for the use of all denominations has been given to Mr. A. Taylor, Matiere. Timber has already arrived and an immediate start is to be made. Euchre Parties.
The weekly euchre parties conducted by, the Otangiwai hall committee will soon be brought to a close for the season. Only one more evening is to be held, to be followed by a “wind-up” evening in the form of a combined dance and euchre evening.
Replacement of Bridge. Materials have arrived at Otangiwai for the erection of a new bridge on the Mokau-Ohura Road to replace the structure washed away during the big flood of a few months ago. As soon as the bridge is finished a start is to be made
on the metalling of 1$ miles of this road. When the metalling is completed the district will have a* much shorter outlet to the New Plymouth-Te Kuiti-Auckland main highway. At present the Ohura county grader is in the Otangiwai district grading the clay and metal roads. Personal.
Mr. E. Lawler has left Otangiwai to join the firm of Lawler and Rice, Taumarunui.
Mr. and Mrs. McNair and family have left the district to take up farming in the Cambridge district Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell and family have taken up residence in the Otangiwai district.
Mrs. A. Shultz has been suffering indifferent health and has entered a nursing home to recuperate. Mr. and Mrs. M. Crooks and family have come to Otangiwai to reside. Over two inches of rain has fallen in Otangiwai during the last two days, and as it has been accompanied by very mild weather it has been very welcome to the farmers.
