CANADA TO TAX FLOUR
COMPENSATION TO GROWERS. AGREEMENT UPON ACREAGE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Ottawa, Aug. 31. Prairie wheat growers have proposed to the Government that the reduced acreage necessary to carry out the wheat quota agreement will be .:ompensated by a tax on flour for domestic use. The revenue thus raised will be paid to the farmers pro rata on an acreage basis. Non-wheat growing provinces are preparing protests on the grounds that the proposed tax would materially increase bread prices.
