LOCAL RATING INCIDENCE

INDIVIDUAL REVALUATION. LEGISLATION TO BE INTRODUCED. Disturbance to the incidence of local rating as a result of new valuations made in the application of individual property-owners lias been under consideration by the Government for some time and it is probable some legislation may be introduced next session. This advice was included by the Val-uer-General (Mr. T. Brook) in his reply to a letter from the Clifton County Council. The suggestion to make a percentage reduction in valuations for which applications had not been lodged had been under consideration, he added, but there were difficulties in the way. He could not give any definite idea as to' when the next general revision of values in Clifton County would be undertaken. The chairman (Mr. H. A. Foreman) said that did not alter the position. The Government would not grant applications for revaluation at present. Cr. E- A. Shaw suggested that, all should apply for revaluation as it was certainly a hardship on those whose properties had not been revalued to have to’pay the increased share of rates because some ratepayers had had theii valuations reduced by more than half.
