- CUP CONTEST TO-DAY. MANAWATU AGAINST TARANAKI. The return representative match between Taranaki and Manawatu will take place at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, to-day a| 3 p.m., this being a fixture in the triangular cup contest between Wanganui, Manawatu and Taranaki, each of which now has one win to its credit. The Manawatu team will be as follows:— Goalkeeper: Crowe. Full-backs: Askam, Young. Halves: Thompson, Coombes, Travers. Forwards: Rainsforth, Rabbetts, Bridgens, Hearsey, McSheffrey. Reserves: Kempson, Watt, Smillie. It is stated that this is a clever combination that should give a snappy exhibition against the Taranaki side, which after two representative games this season has developed the understanding essential to make Soccer attractive. Phillips, the reserve forward, will not be available owing to injuries. The curtain-raiser at 2 o’clock will be between the primary school representative team and the unbeaten 'Waitara boys’ team. The boy representatives returned from the Wanganui tournament last night in charge of Mr. G. H. Gorringe. Though beaten, they had a most enjoyable time while away and gained experience that should stand them in. good stead to-day. It was not expected that a team that had only been two months’ initiated to a code that requires a definite knowledge of the technique combined with the skill to put it into execution. However, the experience they have gained will be invaluable to the boys themselves and, through them, to the 200 boys playing the game at New Plymouth and Waitara.
