TOFFEE APPLES ON STICKS. Choose good sound apples, wash, and dry them thoroughly. Get as many wooden skewers as you have apples, and push them firmly into the cores so that they make holders. Mix together half-pound Demerara sugar, one ounce butter, two teaspoonsful condensed, milk, and a little water, putting the ingredients into a saucepan in the order mentioned. Stir well and boil for about twenty minutes, or until a little of the syrup becomes brittle when tried in cold water. Take the pan off the stove, put it in another pan of boiling water to keep the contents hot, and then dip the apples one by one into the syrup, making sure that they are well coated. Set aside until the toffee is cold and firm. '"""'""V" 1 ""'
