NEW ZEALAND LEGION.

(To the Editor). Sir,—“Curious,” in your issue of to-day, states tha.t “New Zealand is crying out for a party that will work for the good of all and not for a select few.” Such an organisation is the object of the Legion, but it recognises that no political party can achieve this, so it urges adherents of all parties to join in a national effort to meet the present serious emergency. It is not “amusing” but gratifying to find so many prominent party supporters responding to the call. The Legion has already clearly stated that it is not taking any part in the Lyttelton, election, which is purely a party struggle. The Legion condemns political control by any party, or coalition of parties, and therefore discountenances all parties as such. An independent Government is a consummation devoutly to be wished, party struggles being merely “pull devil, pull tailor,” and thoughtful electors despair of distinguishing the one from the other —if there be any difference.—l am, etc., TAXPAYER.
