NEW PLYMOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS. SENIORS AT INTERESTING STAGE. The final handicap competition was commenced by the men’s miniature branch of the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club at the weekly shoot. F. C. Hogg and N. McArtney made possibles among the seniors and L. Higginson did best off the rifle among the juniors. With three more nights’ shooting to be held the senior championship is at an interesting stage, O. P. George leading S. G. Higgs by one point, having averaged 68.1 per shoot. W. Gilbert leads the juniors with 729, the others nearest being F. Huthnance 727, F. Morris 715, L. Higginson 710 and R. Reichenbach 708. Competitions in the ladies’ branch were continued on Tuesday night, the seniors commencing the final handicap competition. Championship scores were:— Seniors: A. Bell 69, C. Kretschmar 69, S. Papps 66, R. Reeve 64, I. Papps 63. Juniors: G. Gillespie 67, L. Burton 63, F. Hogg 63, M. Lawn 50. Handicap scores were:— Seniors: A. Bell 69—1—70, C. Kretschmar' 69—1—70, S. Papps 66—2 —68, R. Miss Bell and Miss Kretschmar with 69 each tied for the senior button, Miss Bell winning the fire-off. The junior button was won by Miss Gillespie with 67. Non-competition scores were: S. Papps 68, J. Maine 59. TEAM COMPETITION CONTINUES. LITTLE BETWEEN CONTESTANTS. Teams shooting was continued by both branched of the club conjointly last night, S. Higgs’ team leading by one point on the night’s shooting, with O. P. George’s team still holding the lead on the aggregate. G. H. Taylor scored the only possible of the evening.
