KAPONGA ENTERTAINMENTS

GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The Kaponga Croquet Club held the final afternoon of its flag five hundred series at the Parish Hall on Tuesday. The series has been well patronised. Tuesday afternoon’s prizes were won by Mesdames Death, Wheller,* Whalen senr. and Whalen junr. The points prizes for the season were won by Mrs. Bennie 1, Mrs. Williams 2 and Mrs. Death 3. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Dawson and Williams. During this week work under No. 5 relief scheme was allotted to two A, eleven B and three C men. The final distribution of boots is. all but completed, only two pairs remaining to be collected. A gift evening was tendered Miss Hazel Bradford, who is to be married this week, at the/Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday. There was a large gathering of friends and many gifts were presented to Miss Bradford and Mr. Claridge. Winners of competitions were Miss Bradford, Mrs. Brewer, Miss Harding; Mr. Claridge and Mr. Bradford. A solo was sung by the Rev. J. R. Nelson. Mr. Nelson spoke of the esteem in which Miss Bradford was held at Kaponga and wishing her success and happiness. Mr. Claridge in responding on behalf of Miss Bradford thanked Mrs. Webby and her two daughters for their work in connection with the function. Mrs. 'Webby in reply said the evening had been arranged by the Wesley Guild ladies. . Mr. Stan Betts, who was selected to play with the North Island representative team, is not able, owing to health reasons, to make the trip with the team to Nelson this week.
