RUGBY MANAGEMENT

MEETING OF COMMITTEE

NORTH JUNIORS POSITION.

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL,

The management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union met at Eltham yesterday, Mr. J. McLeod presiding. Others present were Messrs. A. Guy, R. C. Rutherford, L. J. Furrie, J. B. Rowe, K. Jury, R. Coutts and Dr. E. F. Fookes. It was decided to advise the New Zealand Union that £l5 would be paid towards the transport expenses of the King Country representatives on the occasion of their visit to New Plymouth for a match with Taranaki B on September 16. Owing to the fact that there were no available dates it was decided to play the Taranaki B-Wanganui B game at Wanganui on September 2. There will be no return match this year and the gate will be divided between the two unions.

A letter was received from the Clifton club stating that residents at Motonui had formed the Turangi Football Club and that it was proposed to enter a team in the North Taranaki first junior competition next year. The committee considered the idea a good one and it was decided to advise Clifton that the Turangi team would be under its jurisdiction. The final between the senior divisional winners, Stratford and Waimate, was fixed for next Thursday, the game to be played at Eltham. With regard to the position of the first junior competition in North Taranaki it was stated that Clifton was at present two points in front of Star owing to a mid-week game played earlier in the season. It was therefore impossible to shorten the competition by matching Star and Clifton on Saturday. Star will, meet Old Boys, with which it drew in the first round, on Saturday as a curtainraiser to the Taranaki-Wanganui game. If Star wins a play-off will be necessary and the semi-final will be delayed until September 2; otherwise the semi-final will be played on August 26. The following dates were arranged for inter-divisional first junior matches: September 2, Schneider Cup v. North at Waitara; August 26, Coastal v. Southern at Opunake; August 24, Central v. Wednesday at Stratford. In an inter-divis-ional third grade match, Coastal will play North on either August 19 or August 2&-

The Taranaki Football Association was granted the use of Pukejcura Park on September 2 and September. 30. A letter of thanks was received from the master in charge of the Sacred Heart College team that recently played at New Plymouth. Complimentary . references were made to the hospitality accorded the visitors. ? ,

Mr. McLeod was tentatively, appointed to manage the Taranaki team on Its southern tour. Should he be unable to travel a manager will be appointed by the management committee next Thursday. Mr. J. Martin was appointed to manage the Taranaki Maori team visiting Wanganui on Saturday and Mr. Jury will look, after the Wanganui team coming to New Plymouth. Mr. A. O’Sullivan'was added to the list of representative referees. The reinstatement of C. A. Hammond, who recently played League at Auckland, was approved by the New Zealand Union. . ■
