PETTY THEFT CHARGES

CONVICTIONS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. POLICE COURT SITTING. Charged with stealing a bicycle valued at £l, the property of Percy William Smith, Hawera, Preston Frederic Albert Stevens appeared before Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., at the New Plymouth Court yesterday. Stevens pleaded guilty, stating that he was already serving a sentence of two months’ imprisonment for a previous offence. Stevens was sentenced to a further month’s imprisonment and was ordered to return the bicycle. A man whose name was suppressed was charged with stealing an electric battery valued at 355., the property of Henry Price, Mohakatino, on August 4. Fred Tapihi pleaded guilty to a charge of cutting the comer when turning from Brougham Street to Ariki Street on July 21., He was fined 10s., with costs (125.). Francis Stephen Boardman was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order of 12s. 6d. a week. He was stated by Senior-Sergeant Turner to be £43 19s. 6d. in arrears.
