PRESENTATION OF UNION PRIZES.

NEW ZEALAND RECORD CROP.

For the purpose of presenting the prizes won by members in the annual field competitions the Toko branch of the Farmers’ Union held a dance in the Toko hall on Tuesday night. There was an attendance of about 150.

Before supper Mr. T. T. Murray, president of the branch, apologised for the absence of Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P., and Messrs. H. E. Blyde and D. le Cren Morgan, president and secretary respectively of the North Taranaki provincial executive. Mr. Murray pointed out that the competitions were the educational side of the union’s work. In the absence of Mr. Polson he called on Mr. F. Willan, president of the Lowgarth branch, to present the prizes. Mr. Willan congratulated Mr. Jones and said there was no doubt the competitions were responsible for the heavier crops continually being secured. The prizes were then presented, each winner receiving a cup and the first three in each class Government certificates. The list is:—

North Taranaki mangold championship (Sutton Cup): Evan Jones. The dance, with the Ambassadors providing the music, was. a great success, old-time dances being interspersed with modem. Messrs. Peter Jones and R. Paynter were the masters of ceremony and the Women’s Division supplied supper. Mesrs. G. R. Mclsaacs and Austin Sextus sang and Mr. von Sturmer played an extra.

LINKHORN CUP PRESENTED.

SCHOOL’S PROWESS AT RUGBY.

The Linkhom Cup, won by the senior Rugby team of the Stratford Primary School, was presented, to the team at the school yesterday morning by the president of the South Taranaki Primary Schools’ Rugby Union, Mr. W. Anderson, who congratulated the fifteen on having gained the cup and the Taranaki championship. Three competitions were run within the school this year, four teams being in the junior grade, four in the intermediate and three in the senior. The winning teams were:— Junior: Ross Gordon (captain), C. Foley, J. O’Carroll, John Ryan, J. Tunnicliff, L. Hyndman, W. King, B. Ewing, D. Harkness, B. Garlick, J. Irving, J. Nowell. Intermediate: Tony Rutherfurd (captain), T. Tocker (vice-captain), T. Milner, N. Blanchard, A. Vallis, A. Thomson, A. Rowe, K. Speechlay, F. Wensor, M. Nicel, P. Kivell, D. Batten. DRAW FOR LADIES’ GOLF. STRATFORD MEDAL MATCH. A medal match will be played to-mor-row by ladies of the Stratford Golf Club. The draw is:— Senior: Mrs. J. EUCHRE PARTY AT CROYDON. PRESENTATION TO MUSICIAN. Decorated with streamers and packed to capacity, the Croydon school presented a lively scene at the final euchre party and dance of the season. Prize-winners were: Euchre, Miss A. Morrison 1, Mrs. R. A. Morrison 2, Mr. H. Hamblyn 1, Mr. J. Yandle 2; hidden numbers competitions, Miss I. Bell and Mr. F. Kovaleski; monte Carol dances, Mrs. Crosby and Mr. H. Hamblyn, Mrs. F. Kovaleski and Mr. W. Ludlam. The points prizes were won by Mrs. A. R. Morrison and Mr. F. Bell and a. competition was won by Mr. J. Morrison. After supper Mr. W. Crosby, for the social committee, presented a tea set to Mrs. Yandle in recognition of her services in having played for the dances during the series. Music for the dance was played by Mrs. Yandle, Mr. Crosby and Mrs. Nichols and Mr. A. D. Adlam was master of ceremonies. DRAMA LEAGUE FESTIVAL. The final rehearsals of the festival of The final rehearsals of the festival of community drama to be held in the Town Hall, Stratford, on Friday and Saturday nights promise an extensive selection of performances of types ranging from farce to tragedy. In order to meet the requirements of different scenes a special stage setting is being arranged. Great interest centres in the teams from Hawera which received favourable criticism at the South Taranaki festival. The amount of booking recorded so far indicates that large audieces will attend. The plan is open at Moon’s. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr. W. J. Aitken, Stratford, has been confined to his home with an injury to his leg.
