HEIR TO PROPERTY

“TO LAZY TO WORK.” IMPRISONMENT FOR VAGRANCY. Stated by the police to be the heir to 1600 acres and a fine home in Tasmania, owned by his father, Russell Arthur Allan, a young man, was charged in the Police Court at Warragal, Victoria, lately, with having had insufficient lawful means of support. He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Sergeant Gunther said that the man, who was of strong build, was apparently too lazy to work, or even to get the dole, and the result was that he was half-starved. He had previously been before the Court, when he was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for having insufficient means. Allan had no boots when he called at the police station and asked to be locked up. Sergeant Gunther said that a few years ago the man’s father had come over at the request of the police in order to try to induce him to return to Tasmania, but he refused to go.
