FAREWELL AT OTAKEHO. HEADMASTER’S DEPARTURE. A presentation was made yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bums, who are leaving Otakeho to reside at Femhill, near Hastings, where Mr. Burns has received a school appointment. Mr. S. H. 1c Fleming, chairman of the committee, referred to the good qualities of Mr. Burns as a teacher. Th?’ inspector’s reports were always good and the teacher was capable and conscientious. The children made good progress under his tuition and he was an excellent example in the moulding of character. Mr. Barns had worked very happily with the committee, added the chairman, and it was only the prospect of a fall in grade of the school that caused him to change. He thought he was wise in seeking a better position, but his place would be very difficult to fill. On behalf of the parents and scholars he extended good wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Bums and family and asked them to accept as a token of esteem an easy chair for Mr. Bums and an afternoon tea set for Mrs. Bums. ' Miss L. Putt on behalf of the Otakeho Tennis Club presented Mrs. Bums with a cake dish in appreciation of her work for the club. / Miss B. McCullum asked Miss Effie Burns to accept a small present also from tire tennis club. • Mr. Burris; in reply said that what had been said made him feel that what he had attempted had been appreciated. He had a most capable assistant, Miss McCartie, and her excellent work had made his task comparatively easy. He had made many friends at Otakeho and he felt much regret at having to leave. There was a good attendance of parents and members of the committee and a pleasing programme was given by tho children under Miss McCartie’s supervision. Afternoon tea was served.
