BOXING IN TARANAKI

NOMINATIONS FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS A meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Boxing Association was held at New Plymouth last night, there being present Messrs. J. Garcia (chairman), J. N. Stephenson, R. Harvey, J. Horlor, V. S. Pruden, W. Roebuck, A. F. Aldie, D. le Cren Morgan, Dx-. J. S. Church and Mr. E. J. Cari' (honorary secretary). The selection committee set up to choose the best team available to compete at the Taranaki championship meeting at Hawera on August 25 recommended that the following be nominated: AJensen, flyweight; H. Kettle, fly ox* bantamweight; T. Loveridge, bantamweight; W. Jones; featherweight; B. Turner. J. Jarvis, feather or lightweight; T. Parkin, welterweight; S. Pepperell, middleweight.

The selection committee also recommended that any boxers from the Awawino district who displayed sufficient promise at the Awakino tournament on Saturday night should be nominated, The recommendations of the selection committee were approved and arrangements were made for members of the executive to attend the Awakino tournament, at which Dr. Church and Mr, Pruden will be judges. It was resolved to nominate Mr. J ■ Horlor as manager of the Taranaki team, which is to compete at the New Zealand championship meeting at Blenheim next month.

Mr. J. Garcia was appointed delegate to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Boxing Association.
