The British Government is planning for 100 aeroplanes armed with machine-guns; to be known as the “Home Defence Force,” to be built without delay if the Disarmament Conference fails, says the Daily Telegraph. The machines will cost £500,000 and will have a speed of 250 miles an hour. They will be quartered at aerodromes on a circle of 50 miles around .London. Their chief duty will be to intercept attackers. -
The Herald adds that if an air convention is not reached at Geneva there is d. grave danger that France, Italy and Japan and other nations will follow Britain’s example, resulting in an ai? armaments race recalling the naval race preceding 1914.
