BRITISH FARMERS’ HOPE

DAIRY PRODUCE IMPORTS

.VARIATION OF AGREEMENT.

DELEGATION TO DOMINION

DESIRE FOR CO-OPERATION

By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 p.m. London, Aug. 14.

The Times in a leader in connection with Mr. W. E. Elliot’s assurance that the Government is undertaking to limit competing imports of dairy produce in order to safeguard the proposed national milk pool, says that the correspondence between Mr. G. W. Forbes, New Zealand Prime Minister, and the National Farmers’ Union, shows that a frank discussion between English and New Zealand farmers is the most hopeful line to follow. Mr. Baxter’s acceptance of the New Zealand invitation when his services will be missed by Britain proves that the British farmers’ desire is to co-operate as closely as possible with the Dominions in restoring the Home market to their mutual advantage. Mr. Baxter, vice-president of the National Union of Farmers, is on his way to New Zealand. Mr. Gates, president of the union, in a letter to the Daily Telegraph, says every farmer in Britain will hope that the result of Mr. Baxter’s conferences with New Zealand farmers will be an understanding leading to a variation of the Ottawa Agreement.
