HAWERA TRACK NOTES

LITTLE ACTIVE TRAINING. SERIOUS WORK TO BEGIN SOON. With the, Wellington races over things are again very quiet on the Hawera track. Copey is the only one of the local brigade who claims an immediate engagement. The Hawera team performed very disappointingly at Trentham. Of the six that went down Copey alone managed to get into a place. Little Doubt was produced each day and ran three fair races. He should make amends when he encounters lower class fields. Weatherzone was never sighted in his one start—the Trial Plate. The going was against him with his bad action and he should do better when more experienced. March was another who hardly came up to expectations. Both The Tiger and Gibraltar made good showings without running into a place and their turn should come later. After running very poorly in the Wellington Steeples Copey went much better on the concluding day. His next appearance will be at Riccarton, where the larger fences will be in his favour. D. O’Connor will again be in the saddle. 0. Cox’s rising two-year-old by Friarsdale out of Fluency has been named Friesland. He is a big barrelled youngster and as he appears to be growing fast he will probably require a fair amount of time. There has been very little fast work on the Hawera track during the past week. VZith tire Egmont-Wanganui and Taranaki Hunt meetings next month fast work will be commenced in earnest in a liUe more than a week’s time. z

On Saturday Rapper and Richfield sprinted three furlongs on the sand in 395. Rapper shaped very promisingly and gives every indication of turning into a very useful three-year-old. He will have his first start for the season at the Taranaki Hunt Club’s fixture, after which his owner-trainer, R. Brough, has his eye on some of the more important three-year-old events for the Daniloff colt.

On Tuesday Tenacre (H. Mills) schooled faultlessly over a couple of brush fences. As at the Foxton meeting there will be al' brushes and no solid obstacles in the steeplechase Tenacre should give a good account of himself in that race. He is still slightly scratchy after working. C. Jackson leaves for home from Sydney to-day.. During Iris absence P. Adlam has kept Aga Khan and Diagano in first-class order and the half-brothers could be brought to concert pitch at very short notice if required. La Crown is hitting out in good style in the easy work allotted her. The recent good form of Beacon Fire and Amyril, who were second and third respectively to the Lackham mare at Hawera in May, draws attention to the bright prospects of La Crown when she is raced again. Her stablemate, the Diac-quenod-Avola colt, alsd looks a good proposition for the new season. He is a fine cut of a youngster and moves in a very easy style. .
