BEEKEEPERS’ CONFERENCE
SUGAR DUTY REMOVAL ASKED. INSPECTION OF APIARIES. : — By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The removal of the import duty on sugar used for feeding bees was strongly recommended by the National Beekeepers’ Association at the annual conference to-day. A deputation was arranged to wait on the Ministers of Customs and Agriculture to-morrow. Complaints were made that the areas allocated to apiary inspectors were too large to be covered effectively. A resolution was carried that the inspection of hives should be more frequent, either by a part-time inspector being reinstated or by members of the national association having authority to inspect a certain area in their own districts. A scheme to combat malnutrition among unemployed by the supply through the Unemployment Board of honey to necessitous cases at half the retail price was not agreed upon. .
