LEPROSY CASE REPORTED
HINDU RESIDENT AT HUNTLY. TO BE SENT TO MAKOGAI ISLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A case of leprosy has been reported from the. neighbourhood of Huntly. The patient is a Hindu, aged 45, a storekeeper at Huntly, where he has resided for a number of years. He was removed to Hamilton and admitted to the Waikato hospital, where he was placed in isolation. The disease is not in an advanced stage. The case was reported to the Health Department, which is making arrangements for the patient to -be sent to the leper station at Makogai Island. An official of the Department stated that leprosy is extremely rare in New Zealand. When the disease did occur it was nearly always confined to Maoris.
