KALLIL SHIELD COMPETITION
MATIERE WINS ALL ITS GAMES. Matiere teams won all three games played at Matiere on Saturday. The ground was very heavy. There were occasional glimpses of back play, mostly of an individual nature. In the third grade game against Ohura High School Matiere won a closely contested game by nine points to eight. The Matiere captain, R. Carter, scored two tries and H. Fauchelle : one try. V. Dons, who scored a runaway try from his own twenty-five and converted it, and P. Towler scored Ohura’s points. Mr. Watson refereed. By 14 points to 3 Matiere won the junior grade game against Ohura. In the first spell, J. Woodeney and O. Turner scored for Matiere, Turner converting his own try. In the second half Woodeney (Ohura) scored a try well out. B. Carter and Nelson scored further tries for Matiere. Mr. Watson refereed. The senior fixture saw Ohura defeated by Matiere by five points to nil.Matiere attacked for most of the first half, Ohura forcing on numerous occasions. Before half-time fast following up by Matiere took play the length of the field for C. Box to score by the posts. B. Pleasants converted. The second half was evenly contested, play being mostly confined to the forwards. There was no further score. Mr. T. B. R. Julian was the referee.
