PEARCH AND PHELPS MATCH

Toronto, July 17., Bobby Parce (Australia), world’s amateur- champion, to-day signed a contract to meet Ted Phelps (England) the world’s professional sculling champion, in a three-mile match race here on September, 1, the winner to receive 5000 dollars. Pearce' was guaranteed 2500 dollars regardless of the result of the race, which will be held on Lake Ontario, over the Canadian National Exhibition regatta course. Pearce said that it was not the lure of the prize money that was leading him to professional ranks. “There is something in the blood which demands that I enter further competition and endeavour to attain the last remaining title open to me," he said. “I want to be able to pull down the course just'a little bit in front of Phelps, whom I regard as a very ygat sculler.”, '
