THE 4A SCHEME.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l think it is about time the Gov•mment awoke to the facts and abolished the 4A scheme altogether, as I know and can prove that it is abused by certain farmers. In some cases the scheme is useful, but certain fanners abuse the opportunity by having men under the 4A scheme solely to relieve them of their daily routine on the farm, milk their cows, feed out, chop their firewood, etc. If a farmer cannot afford labour and has to go to the Unemployment Board for a man he should set an example by stopping on his farm and doing more to improve his land. By improving his land he would be helping the country, which is helping him by giving him labour free. I have met farmers in my travels in Taranaki who would not ’ take on a man under the unemployment schemes. These farmers do more on their farms and manage themselves. These are the farmers ' who are helping the country—not the farmers who are grabbing all <he free labour they can. I think it is time those in authority put the people’s money to better use by helping the small farmer who is right up against it, and not helping the land grabber with his three, or perhaps four, farms and a hundred odd cows.—l am, etc., , LABOURER.
