AUROA DISTRICT NEWS.

LONG NIGHT SCOTTISH DANCE. ' A very successful long-night dance was held at Auroa on Friday night as a final to the first series of fortnightly dances. Visitors were present; from many parts of Taranaki. Mrs. Attrill’s orchestra supplied excellent dance music and extras were played by Miss Doreen Naim, Mr. Bruce Henson and Mr. Austin. The master of ceremonies was Mr. Nairn. Old-time dances were enjoyed and the members of the Auroa pipe band looked picturesque in their Scottish uniform. Supper was provided. The. Auroa hockey girls paid a surprise visit to Mrs. Mischefski to make her a presentation in recognition ot her many kindnesses to the club. On behalf of the club Miss Una West, captain, presented Mrs. Mischefski with a fruit bowl on legs as a token of their appreciation and gratitude. Mrs., Mischefski said that her little deeds had given her much pleasure. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. S. Kirk, Walton, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Rama Road, last week. Miss Madge Webby, Oeo Road, is in the Hawera hospital. Mr. W. Bradshaw is in the Hawera hospital for treatment after an accident. Mrs. A. W. King is under medical treatment. Mrs. Sorenson, Opunake, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Espin. Mr. W. Haworth and Mr. Espin are visiting Wanganui. Mrs. Boyd, Oeo Road, is visiting Wellington. Mrs. Percy Hughes, Oeo Road, is indisposed. Mr. Jack Bowie is in the Hawera hospital. Mr. Em. Lyford is in tire Hawera hospital. Mr. Tremain, whose death has occurred, had lived at Auroa for many years with his family. A large number of Auroa residents attended tire funeral at Hawera. Among the pall-bearers were Messrs. Penman, Hitchcock and Ben Johnson, erstwhile Auroa residents. A large number of wreaths was sent. The Kaponga Convent basketball team on Saturday visited Auroa. At halftime the scores were 5-all and as rain became heavy the game had to be discontinued. Afternoon tea was provided by the Auroa girls.
