STRATFORD RATES REDUCED
SAVING OF HALF-PENNY IN POUND TOTAL FOUR AND EIGHTH PENCE. The Stratford Borough Council last night approved estimates that will give a general rate of ljd. in the £l, as against 2d. last year, and a special rate of 2 5-Bd., which is the same as last year. The saving effected for the ratepayers represents about £BOO. Receipts and expenditure are each estimated to total £29,535. The increasing of the discounts on the high-rate units of electricity from Id. to 2d. made earlier in the meeting and calculated to effect a saving of £4OO to consumers reduced the estimated receipts as they were originally drafted by that amount, and it was necessary to raise the proposed general rate of IJd. to the l|d. finally approved as a farthing in the £1 produces approximately £4OO in rates.
