CAGE BIRDS AND CANARIES

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB’S EVENING. TROPHY PRESENTATIONS MADE. Trophies and prizes won by members of the New Plymouth Canary and Cage Bird Club were presented at a social held on Saturday night, at which about 30 members were present. Mr. G. Fleming presided and the presentations 1 were made by Dr. P. C. Davie, the club’s patron. Mr. Fleming referred to the interest and enthusiasm displayed by canary and cage bird fanciers in connection with the recent show and said the display of birds was one of which all could feel proud. For an initial effort it was a wonderful exhibition. Mr. Fleming, who was judge of the canary section, also spoke of the quality of the birds, with particular reference to those belonging to New Plymouth exhibitors. Taranaki fanciers had birds comparing favourably with the best to be found in any other part of the Dominion and with a continuation of interest and enthusiasm future shows of the club would be on an even larger scale. Dr. Davie congratulated the executive on the success of the show, and the way in which everything was set out. The birds were displayed to the best possible advantages and he felt confident that fanciers would show their appreciation by giving ever greater support next year. The public, he was sure, would look forward with interest to the next show. Appreciation was expressed of the splendid support extended to the show by Auckland fanciers. All could feel justly proud of the show and he was confident the future success of the club was assured.
