The South American order, which it is now understood is for 1500 tons, has absorbed the bulk of the potatoes available at the moment. The order will be going forward by different vessels, the first almost immediately and probably two others by succeeding direct ships. Prompt whites are quoted at £6 7s 6d to £6 10s at Lyttelton and July delivery at £6 12s 6d. Values to farmers for prompts are £5 ss. Shipments north are still small, but there is a little more interest being shown by northern tradFowl wheat is unaltered at 3s 6d f.o.b. sacks extra. Oats are very quiet. Prices for A Gartons are 2s 7d a bushel at Lyttelton, 2s 5d to 2s 6d at Dimedin and 2s 4d at Bluff. Quotations to farmers are Is lid to 2s on trucks, with B’s at Is 7d. Chaff is meeting with little inquiry and is quoted unchanged at £2 to £2 2s 6d a ton. Partridge peas are quoted nominally at 4s 9d f.o.b. sacks in.
