PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

WHISKERS BLAKE v. COUNT VARGA.

The Dominion Wrestling Union telephoned New Plymouth yesterday morning notifying the local association to the effect that Jack Patterson had broken out in boils and it Is impossible for hmi to wrestle for some time. To meet the situation and avoid disappointment t e local association are pleased to announce that at such short notice they have been successful in securing the most popular matman in New Zealand to-day, namely Whiskers Blake, for Count Vargas opponent to-night. While some patrons will be disappointed in not seeing Fatterson in action at present, they will have the opportunity of doing so at a later date, possibly against George Walker. However, Whiskers Blake proved such a success in his match here with Pereira that we feel certain of a real first-class contest and a bumper house. Already readers of these columns are well aware of the count’s record and ability, and it is quite sufficient at this stage to just mention the name Whiskers Blake as the opponent. The local association’s appointment of Mr. George Bennett, of Wellington, as the referee is a very wise one. With the /ast increase in the number of amateurs now available in North Taranaki it is an easy matter to arrange amateur bouts of a more interesting and scientific nature. The amateur bouts are timed to commence at 8 p.m. sharp and patrons are requested to be seated by this time. The doors will open at 7 p.m. and patrons have the opportunity of avoiding rustling, crushing and disappointment by availing themselves of reserved seats or procuring day sales (no extra cost) at Chum Roberts, Tobacconist, Devon Street, New Plymouth.
