NEW DUNEDIN POST OFFICE

WORK ALMOST IMMEDIATELY TENDERS TO BE CALLED IN MONTH. DETAILS ALREADY WORKED OUT. THE DESIGN DISTINCTLY MODERN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night Construction of the Dunedin post office will be proceeded with without delay, according to an official statement tonight.

The Hon. A. Hamilton, PostmasterGeneral, and the Hon. J. Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, have been in consultation with the heads of departments. Tenders will be called within a month and work will begin almost immediately, as contractors worked out all details in June, 1931. The work is to be finished in three years from the date of commencement. The foundation has been constructed by the Public Works Department.

The building will cover a whole city block, approximately 142 feet by 150 feet. The design is distinctly modern. There will be no cornices or projections except on the Princes Street frontage, where a large rennaisance feature, 84 feet wide and extending through seven storeys, marks the main entrance front.
