VOTE TAKEN AT AUCKLAND.

LARGE MAJORITY OPPOSED.

Auckland, Last Night.

The proposal that Auckland relief workers should strike in sympathy with those who ceased work in Hawke’s Bay recently was rejected by ballot by a majority of over two to one. It was stated that of 8000 relief workers in the Auckland area entitled to vote only 3000 took part in the ballot. The actual voting figures were not divulged. An effort was made to hold a demonstration of unemployed at Victoria Park to-day, but only 100 men attended. After a wait of about half an hour the men were told it was not proposed to proceed with the meeting, but they would meet later at the Trades Hall. The meeting at the hall was attended by approximately 150 men and several women, and was addressed by Mr. H. Kay, chairman of the Napier and District Relief Workers’ Association, and Mr. J. Clancy, also of Hawke’s Bay. At the" conclusion the leaders declined to make a statement indicating the nature of the business considered. EFFORTS TO CAUSE STRIKE. LITTLE SUCCESS AT WELLINGTON. Wellington, July 12. A determined effort is being made by the Wellington Relief Workers’ Union to get the men out on strike. One picket of women and three pickets of men are visiting jobs to-day, but met only a modicum of success. The official statement is that 200 are on strike. FEEDING OF THE STRIKERS. POSITION IN HAWKE'S BAY. Napier, July 12. The social service committee has announced that it cannot guarantee to feed strikers during the week, although all efforts will be put forward to do so. Some of the strikers applied for work this morning. In the meantime the Nanier leader has gone to Gisborne and another leader is at Auckland. The object of these visits is not known, _
