ALTITUDE RECORD DENIED

NEW PLYMOUTH PILOT’S FLIGHT. CLAIM OF WELLINGTON FLIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Records kept at Wellington suggest that the altitude achieved by Pilot Harvie at New Plymouth, 18,400 feet, is nearly 1000 feet below that of C. M. Duthie, Wellington Aero Club pilot, some years ago when in a standard machine he went up to 19,370 feet. In any case unless the New Plymouth machine was equipped with a sealed barograph the record could not be claimed, as it is insisted upon in official flying circles. Since Duthie’s unofficial record altitude flying has not been encouraged on account of machines being forced above the “ceiling,” which rightly belongs to them.
