COUNTRY STOCK SALES FRANKTON QUOTATIONS. DEMAND FOR OX BEEF. Hamilton, July 11. There was an average yarding of fat sheep at the Frankton saleyards to-day, with a distinct improvement in quality. A number of well-finished wethers were penned, and sold under, good competition at prices firmer than those ruling last week. There was a very small entry of fat ewes, and advanced rates were realised., A smaller yarding of fat lambs came forward, with prices showing an easing tendency. Ox beef was in smaller supply than usual and higher values were realised. Cow and heifer beef also sold at an improvement on late rates. There was a small entry of fat pigs, which met with a good demand. Values for porkers were also firmer. Prices for stores and weaners were below last week’s quotations. The auctioneers report as follows: —

Sheep: Heavy prime wethers sold at 19s 7d to 20s 4d; heavy fat wethers, 18s 8d to 19s Id; medium, 16s 9d to 17s 9d; heayy fat ewes, 14s lOd to 15s sd; medium, Ils 9d to 13s 6d; prime heavy lambs, 17s 9d to 18s 9d; medium, 15s 8d to T6s 8d; light, 12s 6d to 13s lid; store lambs, 9s 3d to 10s; smaller, 8s 6d to 9s. Cattle: Heavy fat cows, £4 10s to £4 16s; medium cows and heifers, £3 11s to £3 18s; light, £2 15s to £3 3s; boner cows, to 365. Pigs: Medium baconers, 38s to £2 2s; heavy. porkers, 30s to 335; medium, 27s to 295; light, 25s to 275; stores, 16s to 19s 6d; slips, 12s to 15s; weaners, 9s to Ils.

At the wool sales 12,181 bales were offered, including 6066 New Zealand, and about 8217 sold. Th& demand was well sustained and a ready clearance was made, home, and Continental buyers participating at full recent rates. Prices are: Scoured merinos, New Zealand, Otamatapaio, top 25|d, average 24d; greasy crossbred, Brancepeth, top 13Jd, average B’7-Bd. • - HIDES AGAIN RISE SHEEPSKINS ALSO FIRM. TALLOW MARKET IMPROVES. After the'easing tendency at the previous sale,. hides again finned at the fortnightly auction held by Auckland brokers on Tuesday. There was an average, advance in values of from l-8d to id a lb. Local tanners were the chief operators in the market, but some lines were taken by overseas buyers. The firming in the London market for sheepskins was reflected in a rise of Jd to Id a lb. in the value of dried skins, while salted skins were 6d to Is each higher, according to size. The tallow market was a shade . better, first grade selling up to £l6 IQs a ton.
