CENTRAL TARANAKI ASSOCIATION TTOLLOWING is the summary for the past season of the results obtained by the Central Taranaki Group Herd Testing Association, Inc.:

Details concerning the number of cows testing up to certain standards are interesting. One hundred and twelve cows, representing 4.7 per cent, of the total tested by the group, produced under 30001 b of milk; 84, or 3.5 i per cent., returned 35001 b.; 127, or 5.3 per cent., 40001 b.; 203, or 8.5 per cent., 45011 b 256, or 10.7 per cent., 50001 b.; 291, or 12.6 per cent., 55001 b.; 28p, or 11.9 per cent., 60001 b. The total up to 60001 b. of milk thus represented 1338 cows, or 56.9 per cent., of the total tested. Above 60001 b. the returns were:—27l, or 11.4 per cent., 65001 b.; 247 or 10.3 per cent., 70001 b.; 163, or 6.8 per cent., 75001 b.; 124, or 5.2 per cent., 80001 b.; 103, or 4.3 per cent., 85001 b.; 62, or 2.6 per cent., 9000. Total up to 90001 b. of milk represented 970 cows, or 40.6 per cent, of the total tested. Above 90001 b. the number gradually receded as follows:—2s cows, or 10 per cent., 95001 b.; 16 cows, or 0.7 per cent., 10,0001 b.; 10 cows, or 0.4 per cent, 10,5001 b.; three, or o.l' per cent., 11,0001 b.; three, or 0.1 per cent., 115001 b.; one cow,, or 0.04 per cent., 12,0001 b. The total producing from 90001 b up to 12,0001 b. was 58 cows, or 2.4 per cent, of the 2387 cows tested. There were 425 cows, or 17.83 per cent, of the total, that averaged up to 2001 b. fat.; 1130 cows, or 47.3 per cent., that averaged up to 3001 b fat.; and 832 cows, or 34.9 per cent., that produced between 350 and 5501 b. of fat. The best herd of over 60 cows was that owned by Mr. S. H. Wicksteed, Pembroke Road, Stratford. This numbered 62 cows, the average per cow being 67041 b. milk, test 4.76, fat 319.271 b., days under test 273. The highest producing single cow calculated on the basis of per day undei test was Mermaid, owned by Mr. John Gibson, Monmouth Road, Stratford, which was seven years of age at the commencement of her test of 2a3 days and produced 87771 b. of milk testing 5.5 per cent, and returning 4821 b. of fat. The association’s average pen cow for the season worked out at 57501 b. of milk, 4.7 test, and 270.431 b. of fat. The average test lasted 266 days. Eighteen herds averaged over 60001 b. of milk and eleven over 3001 b. of fat. The highest herd in the association for milk and fat was owned by Mr. H. C. Taylor, Mountain Road, Ngaere. His 58 cows averaged 75061 b. of milk, a test of 4.62 and 346.861 b. of fat in 277 days. ( , The highest cows in the association apart from Mermaid, which was tested for only 253 days, were the grade Jersey Chessnutt, owned by Mr. C. Corby, Waingongoro Road, Cardiff, which produced 5061 b. of fat in 365 days, and Mr. A R Claridge’s pedigree Ayrshire Tressie, which returned 4661 b. fat. The highest milk" nroducer was Mr. L. E. Hann’s (Skinner Road, Stratford) Stella, a grade S ™„S,I 12,4871 b. rf milk «„d 4671 b. of fat in 288 days. The highest group in the association was the Pembroke group consisting of 248 cows averaging 62441 b. of milk, a 4.82 test and 300.71 b, of fat. The best average per acre was obtained by Mr. L. E. Hann, whose property produced 1881 b. of fat per acre on Skinner Road, Stratford.
