Of the 80 Buddhist monks who left Rangoon on January 1 on a conversion walk to Europe, only 14 remain. Forty arrived at Benares after six months tramping and of these all but 14 have since given up. The Rev. Lokanatha Bhikku, an Italian monk • who is leading the expedition, which. is now ii- Calcutta* is considering its abandonment. The monks’ only luggage is a begging bowl and they are living entirely on alms.
