WELLINGTON STEEPLES WINTER MEETING OPENS BEACON FIRE’S STEWARDS AMYRIL AND CURIE WIN By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting opened at Trenthain to-day in brilliant weather. There was a very large attendance. The track was soft after a heavy frost but was in good order. The totalisator handled £28,158, compared with £23,246 on the first day last year, an increase of £4912. The results are;—

Also started: 4-2 Quinopal, 10.9; 7-7 Gueress, 6-6 Jen, 5-5 Kaokaoroa, 9.0. Won by four lengths, half a length between second and third. Jen was fourth. Time, sm. 30s. Thurina won well after being badly" stopped by Gueress when the latter fell. Thurina was fourth at the last fence.

Omeo was always well up and, taking the lead over the last circuit and giving a great jumping display, won comfortably. Valves lost its rider. , TRENTHAM HURDLES. Of £250. Won by five lengths, three lengths and a-half between second and third. Paddon was fourth. Time, 3m. 21s. Adventus was in front over the last ten furlongs with Paddon.
