An amazing story of an illiterate groom who rose to the position of brigade, commander, subsequently leading a conspiracy against the Government, was related in the Rampur State Court to-day when Mohammed Aii Khan and four others were charged with sedition and conspiracy. The prosecution said Khan, who was a colonel in the Rampur State forces, and formerly a groom earning two rupees a week, conspired to Bring the Nawab and his Government into hatred and create disaffection. His object was to create a situation which would cortpel the Nawab to send for him to dial with the disorder.

Khan was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, but the Nawab granted remission of the sentence as a result of a petition for mercy.
