DAMAGE TO GOLDEN HARVEST
SHIP TO GO IN FLOATING DOCK. LARGE HOLES IN THE PLATES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Arrangements have been made for the American steamer Golden Harvest to go on the floating Dock at 9.30 a.m. on Monday. Present indications are that fairly extensive repairs will be necessary. ' ■ ' ■ . • A harbour board diver, continuing his underwater survey to-day, found in addition to damage to the ship’s keel a hole 3ft. 6in by Bin in one of ■ the plates. This doubtless was the one which .caused the rapid flooding of the No. 1 hold; Until the ship has been docked it will be impossible to assess the full extent of the damage or of the repair work necessary.
The Marine Department says that as the vessel is not a British ship it has no jurisdiction to hold a formal inquiry. However, by arrangement with the Con-sul-General of the United States, who has willingly givep-consent, an informal preliminary inquiry will be held by the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Wellington, commencing on Monday.
