DANCE AT CENTRAL SCHOOL

CARNIVAL HELPERS THE GUESTS. A complimentary social and dance to those who assisted in the New Plymouth Central school’s recent queen carnival was held as an expression of appreciation of their services in the school gymnasium. Mr. F. Coleman, president of the Home and School Association, welcomed the guests and paid tribute to the efforts which had resulted in the raising of a sum of £230. Items were given by Madame Veta Cornwall and Mr. F. Baird (songs), Mr. C. Hume Fyfe (violin solos), Miss Rothery (whistling solo) and Miss Jemison (elocution). Messrs. Cornwall, Asplin and Fredric played the accompaniments. Messrs. Fyfe and Asplin and members of the Troubadours Orchestra (who were present as guests) supplied dance music which was supplemented by amplified records.

Amongst those present were the Mayor (Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour) and Mr. and Mrs. H. V. S. Griffiths. Mr. J. O. Turner was master of ceremonies for a programme comprising mostly old-time dances. Mrs. W. H. Huggett and the ladies’ committee supervised -upper arrangements. 4
