POLICY OF HITLER NAZIS

CHANCELLOR’S MODERATION APPEAL TO DANZIG GERMANS OPPOSITION IN AUSTRIA NEWSPAPER “HARMONISED” By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 7 p.m. Berlin, May 27. Citizens to-day were surprised to see the suppressed Communist evening newspaper Weltamabend again for sale on the streets. A British United Press correspondent inquiring at the editorial office was informed: “We have been harmonised; our staff is now Nazi.” Herr Hitler in a moderately worded broadcast urging Germans in Danzig to stand by the Fatherland abstained from language hostile to Poland. “National Socialism knows no policy of frontier changes at the expense of others,” he added. “It does not want war for the purpose of incorporating in Germany people who are not desirous of becoming and cannot become Germans. Therefore the Nazis are limited to those belonging to our blood and speaking, our language. The Nazis’ great mission is to supply a bridge between Germans inside and outside the frontiers.”

The repression of the Nazis by Dr. Dolfuss, Austrian Prime Minister, is reflected in the Government imposing a £7O fee for visas on Germans visiting Austria with a view to preventing clashes between Nazis and Austrian officials. A Nazi manifesto also demands the resignation of the Dolfuss Cabinet and its replacement by a national Government, “which alone will be able to save Austria economically, politically and culturally.” The Nazi Cabinet in a five-hour sitting to-day promulgated laws confiscating the entire funds and property of the Communist Party and its affiliated organisations and providing a shipping subsidy of £1,000,000.

The Austrian Cabinet has decided that the Communist Party must- be dissolved on the ground of its subversive and illegal activities.
