CHURCH FLOUTS ULTIMATUM
BISHOP OF GERMAN REICH. AVOIDANCE OF POLITICS. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London. May 26. A committee representing the autonomous Lutheran Reformed churches, by electing the Rev. Friedrich von Bodelschwings, has flouted the German Christian Party’s ultimatum that the first Bishop of the Reich not only must be a Nazi but also must enjoy Herr Hitler’s confidence. The Rev. Herman Catler, president of the German Evangelicals, insists, the Berlin correspondent Of the Times reports, on absolute independence of the church and says the care of .the church does not lie with a political party.
