MOTUROA SCHOOL AFFAIRS

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Moturoa school committee was held on Thursday, there being present Messrs. Ar H. Bensley (chairman), A. H. Pryce, J- Cunningham, Smith, H. Gaylard, and the headmaster (Mr. W. R. Adams). The headmaster’s report stated that the average attendance for the term ending May 5 had been 167.58, and for the month to date-158. Seven were -admitted and 10 were withdrawn. At present the roll was only 171, and an average of 161 was required to hold the grade-of the school. Miss Wells, a rationed teacher, finished her duties on May 5, her position being filled for this term by Mr. Jenkins. A number of the senior pupils look part in the memorial service held on Empire Day and organised by the New Plymouth Victoria League. It was very desirable that the school should have some outdoor seats made for the children’s to use during the lunch hours. Li connection with the concert held recently the sum of £ll6s was allotted to each teacher, to be expended as the class teacher though fit. A credit balance of £7 4s remained after expenses had been, paid. It- was decided to have a number of seats erected around the school, and the secretary was instructed to make, inquiries regarding wastepaper receptacles. Mr. Adams drew attention to the bad state of the basketball ground, and it was decided to have the surface levelled as soon as labour was procured. Discussion arose about the unsatisfactory state of the drinking fountain. It was left with the chairman and headmaster to interview the Education Board’s architect to see that better drinking facilities should be provided. . . The grounds were still being used by unauthorised people as a thoroughfare, it was stated, and in this connection the committee decided ,to erect final notices. Should trespassing- still-take-. place definite steps were to be taken to' prevent it.
