CRASH OF TWO TRAINS

SIX KILLED IN ENGLAND RESULTS OF DERAILMENT SIDE OF TRAIN RIPPED OPEN f 1 SCENES ON EMBANKMENT British Wireless. Rugby, May 25. Six people were killed this afternoon in an accident on the Southern Railway, when a steam train from Waterloo Station to Alton was derailed between Wimbledon and Raynes Park and came into contact with the Southampton steam express. Two men, two women and two boys were killed. The death roll would have been greater but for the corridor side of the express being that which ripped out the sides of the steam train’s leading three coaches.

Ambulances - and police vans were rushed to the scene. Helpers improvised stretchers of carriage cushions and timber and extricated and treated the injured on the embankment, where three died.

There was little confusion, despite the cries of anguish. The steam express was travelling on the up line. Both the down and up lines were temporarily blocked. Two passengers received serious injuries and several others minor injuries.
