WAREA FACTORY BURNED
FLAMES SECURE GOOD HOLD BUILDING AND CONTENTS INSURED GLARE ATTRACTS MANY PEOPLE. Fire completely destroyed the Wares Dairy Company’s cheese factory late on Thursday night. The alarm was given shortly after 11 p.m., but the' flames then had a strong hold and nothing could be done by the manager and others called to the scene. Outbuildings such as the crate storeroom, office and men’s quarters escaped destruction, but by morning the vat factory was reduced to smouldering ruins. About 150, crates of cheese were lost. The glare in the sky attracted many motorists, and there was a general retreat among the spectators when the bursting of an cylinder sent showers of burning debris into the air. The factory building was about 20 years old, but was in good repair. The factory’s output was approximately 500 tons of cheese a year, and about 20 cheese a day were being turned out up to the time of the fire. The supply of milk will be diverted to neighbouring factories—-Cape Egmont, Okato and Ure Road. The factory and contents were insured for £4830 in the South British Office.
