WORLDBEATER ON SALE.

WOODLAND’S FELICIE AT NATIONAL.

The inclusion of the world’s champion Jersey butter-fat cow, and such a champion, too, as Mr. P. J, Peterson’s Woodland’s Felicie, with her marvellous record of 12201 b of butter-fat, in the offering is sufficient to stamp the first National Jersey female show and sale, .to be held at the Waiwakaiho grounds on Monday, as the most important gathering of the kind ever held in the Dominion, or indeed anywhere in the Jersey world. It should attract Jersey fanciers from all over New Zealand, for it is only once in a life-time that such a champion is. brought out, and less frequently even that her owner is prepared to give other breeders an opportunity of transferring her to their herds.

The Ivondale Stud has built up a reputation for dairy ability that is unequalled. The story of Woodlands Felicia is well known, so need only be briefly capitulated. Mr. P. -J. Peterson, noting her great possibilities-asa producer, purchased her from her breeder, Mr, H. C. Sampson, of the Woodlands S|ud, Hillsborough, and. two years ago he steted that iihdesr. favourable conditions she would produce 10091 b fat. Under the special care that she received at Ivondale she responded to such an extraordinary degree as to become world’s champion oyer all ages, when but a four-year-old. Such, too, was her constitution'that she finished in. great heart, and could have been put under test straight away again this. season,, as she is doing very well. It is only the fact that he has two of her’ daughters, which he is confident will cany on the good work, that has made Mr. Peterson eVen dream 6fr disposing of the champion, which will certainly be invaluable in any herd, because she is still in her prime as a producer. Moreover, she is endowed with such qualities of type as to make her hold her own in the show ring. The fact that her first son topped the National sale last 1 year, realising 320 guineas, shows her .value-as a breeding matron. ' : ’ .<

That great brood cow, Ivondale Rainbow Lass, was a product of the , stud, proving up to the present the greatest Jorood cow in the Dominion. Three of her first four daughters were New Zealand champion' butter-fat cows for their age, and the fourth was'sold as a heifer and was never tested. Her first daughter, Ivondale’s Golden Rainbow, 768.461 b, was senior two-year-old champion. Starting under two-year-old, Ivondale Oxford Lass produced 7311 b fat, while Ivondale Silver Rainbow was the world’s champion on twice-a-day milking, producing 9501 b of fat as a three-year-old. Ivondale Rainbow Lass’ progeny produced the record sum of 1443 guineas, Ivondale Silver Rainbow heading the list with 525 guineas, closely followed by Ivondale Golden Rainbow, 510 guineas. I Since 1926 the Ivondale Stud has produced numerous records, apart from Woodlands Felicie’s great record. Ivondale Oxford Lass produced 7311 b. of but-ter-fat as a junior two-year-old (since broken), Ivondale Golden Rainbow ,7681 b of fat as a senior two-year-old, Ivondale Golden Lass 9051 b fat as a three-year-old, and Ivondale Silver Rainbow a world’s record qf 9501 b of butter-fat as a three-year-old for twice-a-day milking. And the stud will produce other records, too'. This outstanding'success is directly attributable to Mr. Peterson’s slogan ever being “Production first.” Show records, however, prove that type .has also been part of the plan. Besides the champion cow Woodlands Felicie, the Ivondale offering at the National sale on Monday includes five two-year-old heifers and a yearling bull. Ivondaje Cleopatra is a show winner as well as a great butter-fat heifer. Mr. j Peterson expects that she will do 85Glb of fat. Ivondale Sweet Heath, and indeed !the whole offering, including the young (bull, are typical examples cf the IvOn-d-jie breeding policy. For the combined sale at Mr Truby King’s farm, Brixton, the Ivondale offering is again a Very choice one, comprising five two-year-old heifers, one yearling heifer and six yearling bulls. One could enthuse over the pedigree and possibilities of Ivondale stock; and so, no doubt, will a full bench of buyers from all Over New Zealand when they are submitted.
