LARGEST CLUB ENTRY.
MR. A. R. BAYLY’S JERSEYS. ■ The largest entry in the New Plymouth Jersey Cattle Club’s sale to be held next Tuesday is that of Mr. A. R. Bayly, Omata, and includes the first lot of females ever sold by him. The stock is of a splendid strain, as is shown by the pedigrees in the catalogue. Five of the six heifers offered are sired by Crofton Baron, a double grandson to the famous Aster’s Golden Lad (sire of 11 C.O.R. daughters, including two gold medallists) and out of daughters of Ivondale Gold Medallist, which is a full brother to Ivondale Golden Sungleam, sold at auction for 300 guineas. He sired some high producers, ‘inclnding Medallist’s Honey, who last year under C.O.R. reached 683 lb fat. Crofton Baron was bought specially to mate with Ivondale Gold Medallist’s daughters, and herd tests show that the breeding has been entirely successful. This dam was originally bought from Mr. P. J. Peterson, Brixton. The yearlings are mostly by Pinewoods Corporal, a fine bull whose three nearest dams are all H.C. cows, and some of the pick of the Pinewoods matrons. The bull, which was bought at Mr. Guy Bell’s dispersal sale two years ago x is a son of Pinewoods Rose H.C., which under G.H.O.T. recorded 72541 b milk and 4591 b fat in 274 days. The herd foundation cow is Honeyfield Blossom (C.0.R., 5881 b fat at 9 years), dam of Medallist’s Honey, with three close up strains of K.C.B. Production combined with quality has always been the keynote of the progressive Jersey, breeder, and those who attend this sale will not be disappointed, for Mr. Bayly’s entries come from really good producers and are good type cows.
