The trophies were won by Mesdames Cook, Williams, Dagg and Williamson (Glea Road). Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Brewer-and Lewis. , ■ The first of a series of t winter dances organised iby the combined hockey dubs Was held in the Parish Hall, where 25 eouples danced to music played by Mias M. Guy (Matapu). z .The masters of ceremony were Messrs. R. Grace and R. Noonan. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss D. Templeton and Mr. V. Betts. Supper arrangements were in the hands of a ’committee comprising Mesdames A. W. Anderson, Boyle and Carrington, Misses H. Guy and D. Templeton. A short immunity sing was held. Mr. George Powell met with a painful | mishap when a boxthorn entered one «i his eyes. He is confined to his home and receiving medical attention. Miss V. Melville, of the staff of ths Wanganui public hospital,, is spending * holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. H. Melville. Mrs. H. King and Mis E. King have gone on a holiday visit to Te Awamutix. Mr. J. O’Connell, Waipukurau, is oft a visit to Kaponga and is staying with his aunt, Mrs. J. O’Donoghue.
