INGLEWOOD BRANCH W.C.T.U.

ADDRESS BY MISS GREENWELL. When the Inglewood branch of the W.C.T.U. held the second of a series of monthly addresses at the Methodist Hall on Sunday there was a representative gathering of women and girls present to hear Miss M. Greenwell, secretary of the New Plymouth Young Women’s Christian Association, speak on “My Responsibility to the Community.” Mrs. Mackinder welcomed all present and announced that at the next meeting Miss Gaustad, Urenui, would speak. An elocutionary item was given by Miss Wright. Miss Greenwell said it was very encouraging to hear that Inglewood was working to assist the younger ladies. For 77 years the Y.W.C.A. had been doing all it could for the younger people and it was essentially a women’s movement. Miss Greenwell spoke of the changes that had taken place during the past century quoting much that the women of 100 years ago had to do without, but which the present-day girl took for granted, hardly realising the advantages she had gained and the responsibility entailed. One important point stressed by the speaker was the strength represented by women in being a force of love and home-making and not a force of arms. She pointed out the power of love and unselfishness in the home and how the young people should be glad to be responsible in helping in the great change that was at present taking place all over the world. In conclusion Miss Greenwell read “The Song of Life” as an apropriate expression to her subject. Vocal items were rendered by Miss Young and Miss Wright, Mrs. Hoby (New Plymouth) and Miss Nicholls played the accompaniments. Afternoon tea was served by the members of the W.C.T.U. The Rev. and Mrs. Utting were present, at the gathering. - Rainfall for April.
