DEATH OF TEN CHILDREN

RESULTS OF INOCULATION. CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rome, May 1. Ten children have died and a large number are seriously ill at Venice, Milan, Genoa and elsewhere as the result of inoculation with anti-diphtheria serum prepared at a Naples institute. An official communique states that owing to deplorable negligence quantities of antitoxins, after-being passed by the laboratory of the health bureau and subjected to further manipulation, was mixed with others. The director, Professor Temi, and his assistant have been arrested and charged with criminal negligence. The affected children are being treated by Italy’s foremost specialists. As the incubation period of the majority of those vaccinated has passed or is passing it is hoped there will be no more deaths.
